The first step to assess a footprint of any industrial activity is an Emission Inventory - aka EI. The EI is carefully drafted to account for all the potential sources of emissions alongside the controls implemented to provide a quantitative analysis of the activity footprint. The footprint can be calculated based on real data as well as estimates and can assess the real or potential impact the activity will have on the nearby sensitive receptors.
Many different methodologies can be used to create an omni-comprehensive EI that may include fugitive emissions as well as non-fugitive emissions of airborne particulate matter as well as gases, vapors and many more chemicals released in the atmosphere with potential to have a long-lasting significant impact on the environment.
